I Wasn’t Old Enough To Love the 80s/Early 90s WEEK!

I’m fairly certain that most people only heard one track from the Portland-based, husband-and-wife duo John Smith and Valerie Day — better known as Nu Shooz.

I Can’t Wait – Nu Shooz

This song jams. The single was released on their first label, Poolside Records, in 1985 and got the attention of major recording label, Atlantic Records. After snatching the twosome from Poolside, Atlantic had them re-record the single in 1986 and launched them into the pop/dance stratosphere of one-hit wonder fame. The track made it to #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts as well as the R&B charts, got to #2 in the U.K. and went all the way to #1 on the Dance charts. They almost won a Grammy in 1987, but were beat out by Bruce Hornsby and the Range.

In total, they recorded three albums that got released and a fourth, entitled Eat & Run,  that Atlantic Records decided to shelve. Needless to say, Nu Shooz was never heard from again.
